Water Conservation

Building sustainable water solutions — rainwater harvesting, well restoration, and community water literacy programs.

Revitalizing Drought-Prone Village Landscapes

Water is the very lifeblood of agriculture and community existence. Yet, every summer, several rural clusters in Maharashtra plunge into catastrophic water scarcity, resulting in crop failures and severe physical distress for women who must trek miles daily to fetch drinking water. Rainbow Foundation works alongside local villagers to deploy permanent water harvesting assets.

"When a village restores its groundwater table, it restores its agriculture, its economy, its health, and its dignity." — Jal Samiti Village Coordinator

Our Watershed Initiatives

  • Stone Check Dam Construction: Building check dams along monsoon drainage lines to slow down fast runoff water, allowing it to naturally percolate down and recharge the underground aquifers.
  • Open Well Rejuvenation: Deep desilting, cleaning, and structural repairing of long-abandoned communal village wells, raising water levels and sanitizing drinking water for villagers.
  • Jal Saheli Program (Water Literacy): Fostering community-led water panels (Jal Samitis) run by village women to manage water distribution equitably and execute micro-irrigation.
